Date in March to be announced

Femme is Fatale, by stalwart cabaret artist and actress, Elzabé Zietsman, forms part of the Ibethiwe Aphuke / beaten, not broken group exhibition raising awareness of Gender Based Violence (GBV).

In Femme is Fatale, a brand new one-woman cabaret, with text by Bruce Little and directed by Eloise Clasen, Elzabé Zietsman gets onto the case, using song and storytelling to get to the bottom of femicide and gender-based violence which are threatening to devour the very fabric of South African society. Tony Bentel is on the piano.

Gender-based violence and femicide have over the last two decades dramatically escalated in South Africa – so much so, that it is estimated that in every 100 000 women in SA, each year 12.1 are victims of femicide – a figure that is five times higher than the 2.6 global average. As not every case can be defined under the blanket term “femicide”, the actual murder rate of women is even higher. When we include other factors, we see in SA that there are every year 15.2 female victims for every 100 000 females. By those calculations, a woman is murdered every three hours in South Africa.

Much has been said and much has been written about how to rid our society of this scourge, marches have been organised, silent protests have taken place and our President has made promises, albeit empty ones.

The show will be preceded with welcome drinks and canape’s
