12 Apr Art Investment & Community Support
The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on our most vulnerable communities has sparked a new way of thinking at Rossouw Modern. We’ve now started an initiative that donates a portion of the proceeds from all sales towards Charities and individuals supporting especially the homeless, children and elderly.
This initiative was inspired by friend and artist, Jenny Jackson who immediately showed deep concern for those less fortunate than herself. Her compassionate response got us brainstorming for ways in which we could support those around us, while keeping in mind that artists still depend on sales to survive. A plan began to brew.
For the foreseeable future, most artists in our stable will donate 10% of their income from all sales, while Rossouw Modern will more than match their generosity by donating 20% of each commission earned – the client can also indicate which charity they would like us to support. In this way our Gallery is adding to our ongoing involvement with the upliftment of Hermanus communities.
Inspired by this initiative, a valued friend and client helped raise additional funds with the help of concerned citizens in The Netherlands. So far, they’ve raised ZAR 23,000, which is being directly converted to food and other essential products for those in need. One recipient is Ms Sorya Pieterse of Love Hope Joy Faith, of Mount Pleasant, Hermanus. She heads up a grassroots feeding scheme responsible for feeding 36 homeless people, 50 children and 10 elderly women who would otherwise be left to fend for themselves. With these generous donations her feeding scheme is more financially secure during these difficult times and the vulnerable community she supports continues to receive the warmth of a daily meal. All funds raised are directly distributed by Rossouw Modern to the charities.
We are, of course, ensuring that all lockdown rules are followed by all those receiving aid and that those we connect with are being educated about the risks of COVID-19 and how to prevent infection.
We may not be able to help everyone but with a little thought we can help those around us in innovative ways. It is wonderful that with the help of our artists and clients we have found a way for Art to contribute so positively to both the health and recovery of our country, and the well being of our communities at this time.
All donations and contributions are controlled by HGG Wealth in Somerset West and an account has been opened. Should you wish to make a donation: Forward Fund Trust – Hermanus Fund – Nedbank Savings – Account Nr 9021692581 – Branch Code 198765 – Swift Code NEDSZAJJ
