Sam Brown

Whether it’s with a paintbrush in her studio or a make-up brush on a film shoot – Samantha loves the creative process…. it’s all she has ever done…and all she’s ever wanted to do…

Beginning with the love of dance in her childhood she moved on to study Theatre Technologies, with a particular love for set design and make-up. On completion of her studies she worked for a set design company which led to a career in the film industry working as a stylist, make up artist and scenic painter. After gaining valuable experience in the use of chemicals and various materials in the set building process Sam began experimenting with creating her own artworks from home. Several private commissions later she became a full time artist in 1998, beginning with murals and painting of master copies for restaurants and private homes. From her first solo exhibition at Arabella Hotel in Hermanus she has never looked back. Her work is highly sought after and she is kept very busy in her studio. She also works closely with interior designers and architects on residential and corporate projects. Her works are collected worldwide.

There is no pretension in Samantha’s work – it is all about the aesthetic – whether it’s expressed through her abstract pieces or figurative work which she paints on a kimono as main subject, which is her great love. Based in Cape Town, she also has a home in Hartbeespoort which she can escape to should she feel the need. Movement, shape, colour and design the constant companions on her journey.
